Florida Senate rep.
| | Jeanette W. | Saint Louis, MO | November 20, 2008 | Congress should have passed laws preventing the conditions that make all these bailouts "necessary". Why are jobs in the financial and auto industries more worth saving than those in any other industry?
Let's bail out the millions of people not in those industries. The auto industry should get its billions from the oil industry.
Don't give any more of my money to CEOs who spend it on private planes and huge parties - let the auto chiefs sell off their fleets of planes and cars and country club memberships.
I've never heard people sound so stupid as the financial and auto industry executives who have come hat in hand to Congress.
When will the administration and Congress start acting in the best interest of the people as a whole, not their rich friends. | | Jeanette W. | Saint Louis, MO | November 20, 2008 | Congress should have passed laws preventing the conditions that make all these bailouts "necessary". Understanding the econmic effect it may have, there has to be somewhere else the money can come from, besides taxpayers, i believe we are taxed enough already | | Roger S. | Kokomo, IN | November 20, 2008 | Finally the democrats got smart and made the auto execs explain what they are going to do with the money. (Give it to the UAW) Now there need to be some new faces in the CEO positions and new faces in union leadership. For one company it has been down hill ever since the basketball player took over. | | George W. | Charleston, SC | November 20, 2008 | I am a democrat, I do not support a bailout for the auto industry. Heck, we've seen the abuse already with the bank bailout - banks are using the funds to buy other banks, give bonuses, etc. Can't anyone learn a lesson here? We are a free market, businesses sometimes fail - especially those that failed to execute well. We have this thing called, 'bankrupcy' for these exact situations. The auto industry is in trouble because it has pursued bad business practices and failed to adjust to changing market conditions. UAW says they'll refuse to make any contract concessions if taxpayer money is used to bail them out? Put them out on the street then, those bloated contacts and unwillingness to accept that their companies can not afford to pay the high wages and benefit pacakges needs to sink in. Unions were great at one time, now the big ones are too bureaucratic, greedy and bloated. They won't do what is in the best interests of their union members or the country. | | George W. | Charleston, SC | November 20, 2008 | I am a democrat, I do not support a bailout for the auto industry. Maybe Americans should boycott paying 2008 federal income tax - no income tax revenue, no bailout. | | lynn B. | Duncanville, TX | November 20, 2008 | Our tax dollars are burning holes in Paulson's pockets! Why not just admit that you were wrong, cut your losses & bail out of the Bailout! We, the people, don't want our taxpayers going to these overpaid execs when all they do is spend the $ on resorts, jets, etc. Let the Free Market run its course! | | Cindy L. | Conway, AR | November 20, 2008 | Stop spending our Social Security money! These execs are so out of touch with reality! Let them sell all their jets & mansions & private dining rooms to put back $ into the company that they robbed! | | Samantha C. | Dallastown, PA | November 20, 2008 | I will check to see who supported this and not vote them into office again. I will also spread the word, since no one I know wants this. | | Rose P. | | November 20, 2008 | Where does it end? All US companies will be in line for taxpayers money to support their lifestyle. There is no indication that the CEO's, CFO's and C_O's are even attempting to tighten their belt or give back to their companies. They rape the company and the taxpayer is being forced to salvage them.
This has become the land of financial SOCIALISM! | | Pamela M. | | November 20, 2008 | I enjoyed the comments from the representative of South Carolina yesterday regarding the use of private jet service over commerical airlines of the reps from the big 3. The only corners that these "suits" are cutting are those of the blue collar active and retired employees. Why don't they ask the oil companies to bail them out? They over produced gas guzzling, giant eye sorers, because a few idiot American consumers will buy anything to keep up with the Jones. Just because something can be done does not mean that it SHOULD be. Top management of these organizations has been dated for decades and should be restructured from the top down. Get back to the "old school" values of good customer service, the customer is always right, lower pricing, longer contracts so your car note isn't as large as a house note. Let them fail and restructure, sell some of their private jets and other eminities to settle outstanding debt. Start all over as the good companies they used to be prior to the coporate greed! | | Rhonda A. | Nevada, IA | November 20, 2008 | We have totally lost control! The only way for the common people to get our voices back is for us to actually run for office on the local levels! I am sick of being a "PUPPET" to those within! I am taking the time to run for Mayor of Nevada in 2009. The common people are excluded, browbeat, bullied, and intimidated into submission, and I refuse to be SUBMISSIVE! Actions speak louder than words, this is why I will take the time to run for Mayor. We have to start on the local levels to get control, or we won't have a chance on the State, or National levels! Corruption runs deep! | | Helen L. | Gaithersburg, MD | November 20, 2008 | Why are we bailing out Corporate America???? The CEO’s from the auto industry flew to DC to ask for help in style not humbly...they all used their private jets.... and i bet they all have moneys and numerous cars...hey you want to bail out your company fork over the million $ of the profits you made.... my husbands unemployment is running out, there are job freezes all over the place...cant lower payment on my bills because there was no money when they were due.... had to be late on some....who the hell is helping us? We vote all these subhuman who lie and manipulate with their propaganda, why not revolt....throw the blood suckers out...they are all corrupt... | | Dan E. | Monroe, CT | November 20, 2008 | DON'T INVEST, STARVE THE BEAST. | | Dan E. | Monroe, CT | November 20, 2008 | FREE MONOPOLY MONEY FOR EVERYONE, GET ON BOARD! | | Keith L. | Kansas City, MO | November 20, 2008 | x | | Gail J. | New Albany, IN | November 19, 2008 | IF YOU VALUE YOUR POLITICAL POSITION, YOU WILL STOP THIS RIDICULOUS BAILOUT NOW!!! YOU HAVE NO RIGHT TO SADDLE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WITH THE BILL FOR THE INSANE ACTIONS OF THESE FINANCIAL INSTITUTION CEO'S!! | | julie s. | Tampa, FL | November 19, 2008 | x | | Cristina B. | Santa Barbara, CA | November 19, 2008 | The automobile industry has had plenty of time to heed the energy issues and comply with the future needs of America. Either share the wealth when they are earning it or let THEM fall alone...and we know the will not share their wealth ever. | | Stephanie R. | Willamina, OR | November 19, 2008 | Im sorry that people will loose their jobs...but instead of bailing out multi million dollar corporations lets help the struggling undergrad students trying to GET A JOB and pay back their extensive school loan payments......COME ON congress...governemnt is not a bank and you've made that clear for years...don't babysit corporations. | | JAMES P. | Iron Mountain, MI | November 19, 2008 | x | | JAMES P. | Iron Mountain, MI | November 19, 2008 | x | | Cynthia S. | Baton Rouge, LA | November 19, 2008 | x | | Robert S. | Baton Rouge, LA | November 19, 2008 | x | | Charles C. | Azusa, CA | November 19, 2008 | THIS IS THE LAST MONEY GRAB/TRANSFER OF WEALTH TO THE BUSH ROBBER BARONS! I SAY ANY REP. WHO ALLOWS THIS TO CONTINUE SHOULD BE RECALLED, IMPEACHED AND PROSECUTED TO THE EXTENT OF THE LAW. | | Dan E. | Monroe, CT | November 19, 2008 | WHAT'S NEXT CREDIT CARD CO'S.,AUTO LOANS,STUDENT LOANS, I MEAN WHERE DOES IT END. WHEN DOES SOMEONE TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR OWN ACTIONS. JUST MY TWO CENTS. | | Georgette P. | Jericho, VT | November 19, 2008 | Please have the actual car makers companies dye away their "natural" life and let's have a fresh new start taking into account our new lifestyle in America and our concern over the environment. feeling sorry for the workers of these employers, but let's try to have them employed in our future efforts. Thank you. | | Doug I. | Marysville, OH | November 19, 2008 | x | | Doug I. | | November 19, 2008 | x | | G Z. | Vienna, VA | November 19, 2008 | x | | Matt B. | Gadsden, AL | November 19, 2008 | Do not take monies from the taxpayer's pockets and put it into the hands of those who would squander it. The Wall Street companies and Detroit automakers must be made to stand on their own business decisions, just as each individual citizen is expected to do. Their poor decisions have put them in this position. In other words, they made their bed so let them lie in it. | | Christopher R. | Baltimore, MD | November 19, 2008 | There's no way you can give these businesses all that money without regulations or something to help the working class out. I am completely against the Bailout. | | Tom W. | Fort Lauderdale, FL | November 19, 2008 | x | | Sandra G. | Monument, CO | November 19, 2008 | ENOUGH!! Part of the free market prinicple is to remain competive for business, and keeping up with demand! They have instead pocketted money for CEO's! NO!
Give the employees extended welfare and re-training instead! | | Kyle S. | Beverly Hills, CA | November 19, 2008 | NO BAILOUT FOR AUTOMAKERS!!! For years they have made cars that no one wants, failing quality, stupid mistakes. DO NOT GIVE THEM ONE DIME! They HAVE to restructure and formulate a new business model that focuses on giving people what they want, and something that will last more than 10 years. | | Jennifer K. | Philadelphia, PA | November 19, 2008 | The auto industry CEOs flew private jets to Washington to beg for money?! | | Rogelio B. | Cedar Park, TX | November 19, 2008 | NO bailout for the automakers and credit card companies. | | David E. | Saint Paul, MN | November 19, 2008 | This is outrageous when does this end, this week the banks next week the auto industry let failed companies and bad management go. | | E. C. | Salisbury, MD | November 19, 2008 | Our banking system had to be saved - there is no substitue, The auto companies have competition that are doing a beter job. That is all you really have to know. The unions have finally killed our companies. Its over!! | | ashley n. | Fort Worth, TX | November 19, 2008 | Would congress bailout Ashley Norwood!? No, they would tell me to file bankruptcy. Why should any of the other corporations be any different!? --Double Standard.. Anyone!?
If you don't have the money, simply don't spend it.. or lend it! | | Brandon T. | Jacksonville, TX | November 19, 2008 | This is insane , have you people not the knowledge of simple due diligence. When money runs out that means stop spending !!!! | | Virginia H. | Washington, PA | November 19, 2008 | PLEASE STOP THESE BAILOUTS. IF ANYTHING, THE TAXPAYERS SHOULD BE RECEIVING THIS MONEY, NOT THE IRRESPONSIBLE CORPORATIONS! | | Betty K. | Westlake, OH | November 19, 2008 | x | | Bruce H. | Milton, FL | November 19, 2008 | If you wont "bailout" the poor and those who really need it then why help out any for profit company? STOP WAISTING MY TAX MONEY!!!!!!!!!! I Dont want this debt!!!!!!! | | Maneesh P. | Yuma, AZ | November 19, 2008 | The Republicans in office and those running for office have always claimed Democrats were for socialism but this financial bailout that amounts to socialism of the financial markets were orchestrated originally by Republicans including President George W. Bush a prominent Republican so to those who accuse Democrats of being in favor socialism this financial bailout was by Republicans originally.
| | Maneesh P. | Yuma, AZ | November 19, 2008 | x | | Nathaniel M. | Lafayette, IN | November 19, 2008 | Where's our money going? And why isn;t anyone doing anything about this? | | Dan L. | Irvine, CA | November 19, 2008 | I work full time all my life, and pay all taxes on time. Yet I hear that there will be no moeny for my social security, and I see that my IRA and Roth IRA lost their value by more than 50%. I am lost for words as no one is going to bail me out. | | Andrew M. | Bristolville, OH | November 18, 2008 | x | | Susan P. | Williamston, SC | November 18, 2008 | The Big 3 have failed for years to face the facts that they needed to work harder on hybrid, electric & other alternative fuel cars. The unions need to be willing to give huge concessions. To compete with the foreign car companies that manufacture in this country, they will have to make some huge changes in their corporate structure - starting at the top. No more paying guys $30/hour to play cars because their jobs were replaced by robots. . .no more big bonuses to the top executives. | | AL M. | Costa Mesa, CA | November 18, 2008 | To encourage and reward irresponsible behavior and to punish those who have chosen to do the right thing can only lead to doom. | | Mary B. | Jonesboro, ME | November 18, 2008 | We don't live beyond our means and have taught out children to do the same. We are trying to save money for our retirement so we will not have to depend upon the government to take care of us. We've paid into Social Security and will probably never benefit from it. Who will bail us out when our retirement savings are worthless? Stop the bailouts, now!!!!! | | Steve E. | Grand Blanc, MI | November 18, 2008 | Let's be honest here, if I stopped paying my bills, I trust that Congress would stop the creditors from foreclosing on my home or repossessing my cars? Yeah right! Get real and stop the madness. Let the Big Three go under and restructure their UAW contracts. | | Les J. | New Albany, IN | November 18, 2008 | The bale out is a slap to responsible seniors who paid their bills and were financially responsible. Your going to destroy America!
I am sick of the American Congress!
You all are immune to the pain of the common citizen! | | Maureen S. | Clayton, DE | November 18, 2008 | No bail out's!
It's the cost of doing business, giving them the money to keep going and they are still going to lay-off employees because no one be able to get financing for a new car purchase due to the banks being tight...unless the auto makers get a kick back from the banks on your loan???? No thanks... | | Daniel G. | Orange, CA | November 18, 2008 | No bailout for the auto companies. A cleansing through Chapter 11 is the only chance they have for long-term competitiveness and survival. | | De T. | Rosemead, CA | November 18, 2008 | Let the automakers rot in hell for purposely making crappy cars. | | julie r. | Norwalk, OH | November 18, 2008 | lets take the bail out money and divide it among every tax payer and when distributed will stimulate the economy!! | | julie r. | Norwalk, OH | November 18, 2008 | x | | Tony L. | Dallas, TX | November 18, 2008 | Whose going to bail us all out when Social Security goes broke after bailing out all these irresponsible companies & individuals? We won't be able to get any type of health insurance if the politicans keep spending our SS dollars! Why don't you invest this money on our terrible healthcare situation instead of giving it to these overpaid crooks? Make them sell their assets & bail their own companies out! This sucks! | | lynn b. | Duncanville, TX | November 18, 2008 | I have a Honda Accord with 225K+ miles (still running stong) & had a Chevy that died before 100K miles. It's not rocket science! Let the free market run it's course! Just say No!! | | Cindy L. | Conway, AR | November 18, 2008 | Where does this madness stop? First it was Wall St & the big banks, now it's the auto makers. Stop sending our tax dollars to these crooks that have pocketed their earnings instead of investing or saving them! What part of NO don't you understand? | | Ken K. | Westlake, OH | November 18, 2008 | Maybe the biggest bait and switch in history - if not the costliest.
Ken | | Kathryn K. | Calabasas, CA | November 18, 2008 | We opposed your first passage of the bailout are adamantly opposed to any further bailouts, including the auto industry and people who have defaulted on their mortgages. Too many companies and individuals were spending with abandon and never considering costs, budgets, and their financial commitments because there were no consequences. Now there are consequences and they want those forgiven. No. They have to deal with the consequences and learn how to manage debt. If they all default, they all default. Time to quit taking money from us and giving it to them. | | Peter C. | Morro Bay, CA | November 18, 2008 | x | | James G. | Aspen, CO | November 18, 2008 | x | | Richard K. | Basalt, CO | November 18, 2008 | Banks and brokers have profited off of damaging public loss...they must all be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. | | Michael B. | Tallahassee, FL | November 18, 2008 | My Chevrolet was a lemon. Do not use our money to prop up these dinosaurs. | | John S. | Albuquerque, NM | November 18, 2008 | CEO's getting multi-million dollar bonuses with my tax dollars? Somehow, this does not seem fair, especially when they are at fault for their own financial downfall. Cars today are poorly built. I can not tell you how many times my brand new Chrysler Sebring has been in and out of the auto shop. They have been ripping people off for years and still want more money? NO! | | forest f. | Gainesville, FL | November 18, 2008 | I have a small shop repairing mowers and could use some help in the winter. Help me?
Don't think so. | | forest f. | Gainesville, FL | November 18, 2008 | I have a small shop repairing mowers and could use some help in the winter. Help me?

NO BAILOUT FOR FAILED BUSINESS MODELS AND FAILED MANAGEMENT! INVEST IN ALT SUSTAINABLE TECHNOLOGY!! | | Deb C. | Hanover, PA | November 18, 2008 | x | | William L. | Tampa, FL | November 18, 2008 | Congress should not approve a bailout for the US Auto Industry unless the UAW would like to agree to a 50% pay and benefits cut. Also executives for the so-called big three should also agree to a 75% pay and benefits cut. Why should the American tax payers foot the bill for a mismanaged company and overpaid employees? Enough is enough! | | Abigail D. | New Tazewell, TN | November 18, 2008 | Congressmen are voted in to do what the people in their constituency say. That does not seem to be their priority. You people should be in prison for stealing taxpayer money. YOU people are investing others money and keeping the shares for yourselves. It is a white collar crime sanctioned by our president and legislators. END IT NOW. | | Lewis H. | Morrisville, PA | November 18, 2008 | I will never vote for a member of congress who supports giving my tax dollars to bailout firms that were corrupt, deceitful, incompetent, or, like General Motors, are unable to compete in the market. | | Anthony S. | Cleves, OH | November 17, 2008 | We must stop these bailouts. UAW ruined it years ago. let it die and maybe we can get some Henry Ford's back doing things the right way. | | Steve a. | Vancouver, WA | November 17, 2008 | Definitely, no bailouts for the US auto makers; let them reorganize on their own money, not mine. I'll but foreign-made until they get their act together. | | Kelly B. | Wichita Falls, TX | November 17, 2008 | x | | Maria V. | Greenville, SC | November 17, 2008 | No bail out! | | Roger S. | Kokomo, IN | November 17, 2008 | Stop the automakers bailout.
